This page provides a historical view of all NFL games from the 1960 season to the 2001 season, the last season before the league realignment. There are 8,447 games and 64% of them have point spread information. We include the outcomes of these matches for completeness and fun. We do not incorprate these games in our trends and analysis because of the tremendous change that occurred in the NFL during this time. After the merger of the NFL and AFL in 1966 the Colts, Browns, and Steelers of the NFL agreed to join the 10 existing AFL teams to become the American Football Conference, while the remaining NFL teams were the National Football Conference. The NFL expanded to include the Buccaneers and Seahawks in 1976, the Panthers and Jaguars in 1995, the Ravens in 1996, and the Texans in 2002. Rules have evolved to bring more excitement, greater player safety, and more offensive scoring over these decades- evident by the lower average over/under lines. The Super Bowl came in 1969 and additional wild card teams were added to the playoff system in 1978, 1990, 2002, and 2020. Two games were added to the regular season in 1961, two more in 1978, and one more in 2021.
